  5. Personal progress and service to Alpha brothers and chapters (Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College, Project Alpha, A Voteless People is a Hopeless People, MLK Jr. Memorial Project)
Brother Accomplishments:
  • Led the Seven Sons of Giza neophytes into the House of Alpha as Dean of Membership Spring 2024
  • Led the Go To High School Go To College Little Library project in Orange Park, Fl and partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Reclaimed 11 Brothers as Reclamation Chair and Dean of Membership
  • Served as committee chair for Martin Luther King event partnering with Omega Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where a community panel was facilitated, day of service cleaning historic African American cemeteries, MLK breakfast in St. Augustine at Flagler College, and silent march to the Plaza de la Constitución (downtown St. Augustine) to commemorate the marches King led during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s.
  • Lead the chapter partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters: 5 Brothers serve as Big Brothers; Organized Jumbo Shrimp baseball game with suite and food for students in Big Brothers Big Sisters and Brothers in Sigma Pi Lambda
  • Support Voteless People is a Hopeless People as a Poll Worker
  • Led an African American tour for Sigma Pi Lamba youth male program, Men of Excellence at the ACCORD Civil Rights Museum in St. Augustine
  • Support Sigma Pi Lambda Middle School mentoring program, SPLendid Gents with STEM presentations and education and leadership development. Help lead community service project for District conference at R.J. Murray Middle School in St. Augustine with leadership and conflict resolution presentation with Sigma Pi Chapter President, Brother Christopher Jackson and District Director, Brother Dr. Gregory Harris
  • 2024 Outstanding Alumni Florida State University Black Alumni
  • Member of St. Paul AME church, Jacksonville, Fl. Selected as Member of Year for 2024

Brother bio:

Sherman has an Industrial Engineering degree from Florida State University. Sherman spent 5 years with PepsiCo making Gatorade where he managed operations of Gatorade in Florida and Bahamas. Sherman has been with Johnson & Johnson for 13 years where he is a Manufacturing Manager supporting the operations of the Acuvue Contact lenses. Sherman has led broad Operation projects supporting new innovation and people leadership initiatives.
Sherman serves on 3 non-profit boards: Knots4kids Inc., Mentoring Family & Kids, Inc. (NSBE jr), and Jacksonville Urban league. Sherman is a BIG in Big Brothers Big Sisters where he mentors a Little, Takai. Sherman also leads the Johnson & Johnson Manufacturing and Engineering Academy summer internship program at Johnson & Johnson where students are involved in STEM programs and paid summer internships. Sherman and his twin brother, Sherwin Riley provide scholarship for graduating high school seniors in their hometown of Live Oak, Fl in honor in their parents, Rev. Clifton and Sonja Riley. Sherman is married to JeTonne Riley and has 3 kids. Sherman enjoys spending time with family, watching sports, reading, visiting museums, and traveling in his free time.
